The Historian

   The Task

Your task as the historian of the group is to present a comprehensive summary of the historical events and people that have shaped the history of the country that you are visiting, and to also present a brief summary of the current political and cultural events occurring today (so as to warn visitors of dangers, or to highlight upcoming events that may increase travel).  In order to prepare these two summaries, you need to:

  1. First, look up your country's history in any or all of the following sites.  After you've read through the history of your country, create a list of the most significant events that have taken place in your country, from it's beginnings to most recent times.  Narrow your list to the twenty most significant events.   Britannica or   Encyclopedia  or  Infoplease
  2. Using the events that you have researched, create a vertical timeline of events on a piece of poster board.  Alternating left and right of the timeline, add typed dates and captions to your timeline (using a clear glue only) that summarize the most important events that shaped your country.  Each caption must be at least four sentences long, typed, and grammatically correct.  You need to add a title to your timeline as well.
  3. Secondly, as the historian in the group, you need to research the history of your country and decide which three people had the most impact on shaping your country.  Was it a king, a general, a revolutionary?  You must decide which people are the most important, but remember, you must be able to defend your choices and explain why they are the most important three people.   Infoplease
  4. Now that you have decided which three people have meant the most to your country, type a two page summary of the historical significance of each of the people you have chosen.  You do not need to summarize each person's entire life; rather, concentrate on pointing out what role each had in shaping the country you are researching.  The paper must be two pages in length (no more than four), typed, double spaced, 10 font, and grammatically correct.
  5. Lastly, since we want to make sure that our travelers are well informed of the most recent and breaking news in your country, it is up to you to find out what is going on in your country today.  Type a one page summary of three current events that are taking place in your country today.  Each summary should be one paragraph in length, and single spaced.  Choose events that you feel are "must-knows" for our travelers.  Is there a special celebration going on or upcoming festival that they may want to be a part of?  Is there political turmoil that, and our travelers should avoid going this week?  You may want to use:   Britannica
