The Geographer

   The Task
  1. First, print out a blank map of the World, and a blank copy of a political map of your country. World Maps
  2. On the World Map, label and color gray the United States, and label your country also.  Label the map with the Equator, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and the continent of Europe.
  3. On the Individual Country Map, label your country and draw a box labeled "Key" in the lower right-hand corner of your map.
  4. Find and label on your map the capital of your country (with a star denoting it as the capital), and the three largest cities (one of which may be the capital).  The largest dot should represent the largest city, and so on.  Starting at the largest city, draw a line that connects the largest city to the second largest city, the second to the third, etc.  On the line between each city, write in the distance between the two.  Add the dots and the star with explanations to your "Key" section.     World Capitals    Maps of the World     World Countries and Facts     The World Gazetteer
  5. Find what the general climate is for your country around the capital city during the month of July.  If your country is primarily a warm climate (80+ degrees), color it yellow.  If it is generally a cold climate (below 60 degrees), color it blue.  If it is a moderate climate (between 60 and 80 degrees), color it orange.  Add the color and it's description to your "Key".                         The Best in the World    World Capitals
  6. Since we are going to be flying into the capital city, it may be a good idea to know the exact longitude and latitude of the country we're flying to World Locations   (in case the captain needs a little help).  Write this information below the country title on the Country Map.
  7. Now you want to find out what are the most interesting sites to visit in the cities you've labeled on your country.  Find two places in each city that you feel are interesting and would be attractive destinations for visitors.  You may find museums, castles, inns, sports arenas, shops, monuments, or other points of interest during your search.  After you are done finding the two points of interest in each city, add to your "Key" a picture that represents each type of attraction (ie. a picture of a museum to represent a museum).  Put a similar picture of the attractions around the city in which it is found. World Sites to See
  8. Lastly, for each place of interest that you have found, type a one paragraph explanation about the site and why it would be an important and interesting stop for visitors to see.  Include information about where it is, what it is, and what types of things visitors could hope to enjoy while there.  For example, is the site a museum in Florence, Italy, full of Roman sculptures and paintings?  Or, is it a famous skating rink in Karlsberg, Sweden?  Remember, make the site seem as tempting as possible so that many visitors will want to see it.
